TRUSTEES

 
 
 

 George C. Marshall (1889–1959)  Board Chair (1949–1954) and former US Secretary of State, center, with  David Rockefeller (1915–2017)  Youngest son of John D. Rockefeller Jr., Executive Committee Chair (1946–1958) presiding over a 1950 board meeting in the Home Room.

 Ralph J. Bunche (1904–1971)  Diplomat, human rights pioneer, and the first African American to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, Bunche served on the Board of Trustees from 1954 until his death in 1971.

 Herman "HR" Rottenberg (1916–2013)  One of the most beloved figures in I-House history, HR was a trustee (1971–2013) and benefactor who, during a 50-year association, created enduring cultural and arts programs, enriching the I-House experience for thousands.

 
 

 Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890–1969)  The 34th President of the United States and Honorary Board Chair (1961–1968), with  Robert W. Purcell (1911–1991)  Executive Committee Chair (1958–1979) at International House on November 22, 1963.

 Gerald R. Ford (1913–2006)  The 38th President of the United States, Ford served as Board Chair from 1985 to 1989 and Honorary Chair until his death. Pictured here with members of the I-House Residents’ Council, 1986.

 Phyllis D. Hirschfeld (1923–2006)  Trustee, 1961–2006,  Ann Haebler Frantz (1930–1991)  Trustee, 1970–1988,  Patricia H. Robert (1933–2021)  Trustee, 1970–2021. These Board members chaired or co-chaired numerous fundraising events in the 1970s and 1980s.

 Sigurdur Helgason ‘45 (1921–2009)  Chairman of Icelandair and longtime co-chair of the World Council of Alumni (1969–2009), with  Kathleen Burns  On the board since 1985 and honored in 2016 with the Dodge Award for Distinguished Trustee Service.

 

 Kenneth D. Taylor (1934–2015)  Canadian Ambassador to Iran, Taylor was an international trustee from 1985 to 2015. Pictured with his wife Dr. Patricia Taylor (b.1930) who chaired the WIL Program Advisory Council from 1993 to 2016.

 

 John J. McCloy (1895–1989  Banker, diplomat, and advisor to six US Presidents, McCloy was Board Chair from 1954 to 1971  Henry A. Kissinger (b. 1923)  Former US Secretary of State, Kissinger was Board Chair from 1977 to 1984. Davis Hall, 1981.

 Elizabeth McEwen (1901–1980)  The first woman to chair the executive committee, McEwen served as a trustee from 1934 to 1980. Pictured here with Howard Cook greeting the President of Nigeria, alumnus Nnamdi Benjamin Azikiwe '31.

 Abby M. O’Neill (1929–2015)  The eldest grandchild of John D. Rockefeller Jr., O’Neill served from 1958 until 2001.  Peter M. O’Neill ’92 (b. 1962)  Rockefeller Family Council Chair, O’Neill joined the Board in 1999 and was named Executive Committee Chair in 2015. Abby O’Neill Patio dedication, 2008.

 Daisy M. Soros ’51 (b. 1929)  Alumna and philanthropist, elected to the board in 1981 and as an Honorary Trustee in 2004. She chaired the first Harry Edmonds Gala with “Sakura Sweetheart” husband Paul Soros ’51 in 1991.

 Donald L. Cuneo ’69 (1944–2018)  I-House alumnus, trustee, and president with (L-R)  Ambassador Frank G. Wisner (b. 1938)  US Diplomat, Board Chair 2012-present  Paul A. Volcker (1927–2019)  Former Chair of US Federal Reserve, Board Chair 1998–2012  John C.
